Woman died from neck injuries in family dog attack
Tragic Death of 19-Year-Old Following Family Dog Attack
Essex’s senior coroner, Lincoln Brookes, halted the inquest process at the request of local police to allow further investigation into the incident. An inquest revealed that a 19-year-old woman succumbed to severe neck trauma after being attacked by her family’s dog.
Incident Details
Jamie-Lea Biscoe was discovered by her father in her Leaden Roding home, located near Great Dunmow in Essex, on 10 April. The coroner’s court was informed that she suffered severe neck trauma, likely inflicted by the family dog. Paramedics were dispatched to the family’s residence on Long Hide Road, but were unable to save Jamie-Lea.
Coroner’s Remarks
At the inquest’s outset, Brookes expressed his condolences to Jamie-Lea’s family, calling the case a “truly tragic loss of life.”
Investigation Status
The post-mortem established that the neck injuries were the direct cause of her death. The dog, thought to be a lurcher-cross, was taken into police custody for breed identification tests. The BBC has sought information from Essex Police regarding whether the dog has been destroyed since the incident.
Arrest and Bail
A 37-year-old man from Great Dunmow was arrested on suspicion of negligently managing a dog that caused fatal injuries. He was subsequently released on bail.
