Russian attacks leave three dead in Ukraine

Russia intensified its military operations in Ukraine on Wednesday, deploying drones and missiles in coordinated strikes that resulted in at least three fatalities, according to Ukrainian officials. The violence unfolded across multiple regions, with significant impacts in Kyiv and Dnipro. The capital, Kyiv, reported casualties, including a 12-year-old boy, as per the city’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko. He noted that two individuals were killed, while at least 18 others sustained injuries. In Dnipro, a southeastern city, one person lost their life, and ten were wounded in an attack, per Oleksandr Ganzha, the regional administration head.

Cross-Border Escalation

Meanwhile, a Ukrainian drone strike in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai region claimed the lives of two children, aged five and 14, according to the governor, Veniamin Kondratyev. The incident occurred near the border, underscoring the ongoing conflict’s reach beyond Ukraine’s borders. In Kyiv’s central Podilsky district, rescuers extracted a mother and child from the rubble of a collapsed 16-story residential building, adding to the toll of the night’s attacks.

“As well as the deaths of a 12-year-old boy and a 35-year-old woman, rescuers pulled a mother and child from the ruins of a 16-storey residential building that collapsed in Kyiv’s central Podilsky district,” wrote Klitschko on Telegram.

Further reports indicated that a drone strike injured a 77-year-old woman and a 66-year-old man in Kharkiv, while an attack in Odesa left five individuals wounded. The strikes followed a brief ceasefire during Orthodox Easter celebrations, which both sides claimed was violated hundreds of times. Despite the pause, tensions remain high, with each side accusing the other of breaching the truce.

Peace Talks Stalled

The war in Ukraine has now entered its fifth year, marked by several rounds of diplomatic efforts. The United States has mediated these discussions, but progress has been halted since President Donald Trump redirected attention to conflicts in the Middle East. Ukraine advocates for a complete, stable ceasefire as the initial step toward a lasting resolution of the invasion. However, Russia insists on finalizing a peace agreement first, prompting Kyiv to question Moscow’s commitment to ending the hostilities.
