Super-slim Welsh house sells for just £45,000

In the south Wales valleys, a one-bedroom cottage has captured attention despite its narrow dimensions. Initially priced at £23,000, the property sold for nearly £45,000—double the expected value—at auction, sparking 35 bids. Its widest point measures just 7.5ft (2.2m), making it one of Britain’s skinniest homes. While space is limited in the living area, the garden offers room to stretch out along its length.

The ultra-slim residence on Llewellyn Street features standard rooms including a hallway, fitted bathroom, and kitchen. It also includes UPVC double glazing, a garage, and a garden, which adds value despite the property’s compact size. This isn’t the only example in Wales where size doesn’t deter interest. A 16th-century house in Conwy, for instance, claims the title of Britain’s smallest, measuring just 6ft (1.8m) wide and 10ft (3m) high.

Historic Conwy Property

The Conwy house, a historic site, was declared unfit for habitation in 1900. It was rented by a local fisherman who stood at 6ft ins., highlighting its extreme dimensions. In 2020, the building was temporarily closed due to Coronavirus restrictions, allowing only outdoor access for brief visits. Its unique design continues to draw curiosity, even with limited internal space.

Meanwhile, in London’s Shepherd’s Bush, a Victorian house measures 1.6m wide and is considered England’s narrowest. These examples show that compact properties can still generate significant interest, challenging conventional notions of home size and value.
