Iranian FM Heads to Islamabad, but No US Talks Confirmed

Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, announced his upcoming visit to Islamabad, Pakistan; Muscat, Oman; and Moscow. His goal is to “closely coordinate with partners on bilateral issues and assess regional developments.” However, he did not explicitly mention any plans to resume negotiations with the United States, despite earlier discussions with senior Pakistani officials via phone.

US Blockade of Hormuz to Stay in Place

Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth stated that the U.S. will continue its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz “as long as necessary.” This move is intended to exert pressure on Iran, though its impact is felt most by ordinary citizens, who are struggling with rising economic hardships.

Lebanon’s Struggle for Stability

Lebanon’s President, Joseph Aoun, urged the European Union to support reconstruction efforts during his speech in Cyprus. He emphasized that “Lebanon’s stability is integral to regional stability” and warned against using the country as a “bargaining chip” in conflicts. Iran’s focus on a permanent ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah remains a key topic in talks with the U.S., though tensions persist.

“Lebanon refuses to be a pawn in regional disputes. Our priority is de-escalation, stability, and peace,” Aoun added.

Meanwhile, Israel has intensified its strikes across Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah forces and infrastructure. This has displaced over a million people, nearly 20% of the population, as the nation seeks to create a buffer zone for northern Israel. Hezbollah, however, maintains its right to resist Israeli occupation.

Peacekeeper Tragedy and Calls for Accountability

Indonesia’s government reported the death of a fourth peacekeeper in the UNIFIL mission in Lebanon. Chief Private Rico Pramudia “sustained severe injuries from an Israeli tank’s artillery near Adchit Al Qusayr on March 29, 2026,” according to the Foreign Ministry. Despite medical interventions, he succumbed to his wounds. The ministry condemned the attack, calling it a “serious violation of international law” and urging the UN to investigate immediately.

“Any assault on peacekeepers is a war crime. Full accountability must be secured,” the ministry declared.

European Support for Lebanon

French President Emmanuel Macron highlighted France’s readiness to “mobilize partners” through a conference supporting Lebanon’s armed forces and economic recovery. This follows Aoun’s appeal to the EU for aid, underscoring the country’s dire need for external assistance.
