Lufthansa pilots to strike again for 2 more days

Germany’s Lufthansa airline faces another round of pilot strikes this week, according to the Vereinigung Cockpit trade union. The union announced that disruptions will continue on Thursday and Friday, following earlier walkouts on Monday and Tuesday that canceled hundreds of flights. This marks the second consecutive day of industrial action by the pilots, who are part of the country’s major carrier.

Meanwhile, cabin crew members are also staging a work stoppage on Wednesday and Thursday. These combined efforts will stretch labor unrest across six nonstop workdays by the end of the week, escalating tensions between Lufthansa and its two unions: Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) and UFO. The airline has yet to resolve the disputes, which include pension plan and wage agreement issues.

Union leader reiterates stalled negotiations

Andreas Pinheiro, president of Vereinigung Cockpit, emphasized that the ongoing strike has not prompted any concessions from Lufthansa. “The situation remains unchanged,” he stated on Tuesday.

“There has been no movement whatsoever on the part of the employers,” Pinheiro added. “Lufthansa, Lufthansa Cargo, and even Eurowings have not submitted proposals related to the company pension plan, nor does CityLine offer a feasible solution for a new collective wage agreement.”

Arbitration proposed to break deadlock

Vereinigung Cockpit has recommended arbitration to resolve the escalating conflict. The union believes this step is necessary to address the growing hostility between workers and management. On Tuesday alone, over 900 flights were canceled at Germany’s busiest airports, Frankfurt and Munich, during the current strike wave. The airline’s operations continue to suffer as the labor disputes persist.
