A shooter targeted the bustling archaeological site near Mexico City, resulting in the death of a Canadian woman and several injuries on Monday. The assailant then took his own life on the premises.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated on X that federal and state security forces were deployed to the site, noting the incident “deeply pains us.” Her administration was in contact with the Canadian government. “I express my sincerest solidarity to the people affected and their families,” Sheinbaum wrote.
