Teen boy detained at youth facility passes away

The Youth Custody Service confirmed the death of a 15- to 18-year-old boy who was in custody at Feltham Young Offenders’ Institute, located in west London. The youth, held at HMP Feltham A, was transported to a hospital on Monday after showing signs of distress. According to the London Ambulance Service, emergency responders arrived at the facility at 22:04 BST following calls about a child experiencing health issues.

Officials stated that the boy was assessed at the scene and taken to the hospital as a priority. A spokesperson for the Youth Custody Service expressed sorrow over the incident, noting the child’s passing on Monday, April 20. They emphasized that the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will conduct an inquiry into the death. “It would be premature to provide additional details at this stage,” the spokesperson added.

“We were saddened to learn of the child’s death while in hospital on Monday 20 April. Our thoughts are with their loved ones and peers,” the statement said.
